Wellness Made Easy

about us

Welcome to Wellness Made Easy!

Wellness Made Easy is a collaboration between United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore, TidalHealth, Wicomico Public Libraries, and the Business Economic and Community Outreach Network (BEACON) of Salisbury University who are dedicated to empowering our communities to achieve optimal health.

How do we do this?

By helping people access & understand health information so that they can make good decisions to support a healthy lifestyle.

About health literacy

Did you know that?

• Health literacy is needed for ALL people of ALL ages.

• 9 out of 10 adults have difficulty using everyday health information that is routinely available in our health care facilities, retail outlets, media and communities.

• The American Medical Association found that poor health literacy is a stronger predictor of a person’s health, than age, income, employment status, education level and race.

• The American Medical Association estimates 90 million low heath literate Americans.

• Health literacy is fundamental to the success of interactions between health care professionals and patients.

• Individuals with limited health literacy often lack knowledge about the body and the cause of disease resulting in a misunderstanding of the relationship between lifestyle factors and health outcomes.

Why do we need to be health literate?

• Increased ability and confidence to access and use health information needed to promote healthy behaviors and make good health decisions.

• Increased ability to prevent disease and illness through self-care and disease management.

• Less misuse of the health care system due to better understanding of the health care system.

• Less lost time at work and school.

• Improved financial stability for families due to less lost wages and less spent on health care.

• Healthier children become healthier adults.

How will Wellness Made Easy help me?

• Learn how to stay healthy and get sick less often.

• Learn how to prevent illness and disease.

• Learn how to eat food that promotes health.

• Lean how to find and access health care resources in our community.

• Learn how to safely take medications.

• Learn how to access health insurance.

• Lean how to get help to manage long term illness.

• Know where to get help when struggling with addiction.

• Know where to find health care for your children.
